FAQ for our American Tours

What’s included in the price?
All accomodations, transportation, and national parks. Extra costs will be $10/day for food, and optional activities.

What's provided?
All camping and cooking equipment. Spacious tents for everybody. You need to bring your own sleeping bag and sleeping pad. If you do not have one, we can sell you one for cheap.

Who signs up for these tours?
Active and enthusiastic travelers! The majority of our passengers are solo travelers. Couples , friends, and small groups also sign up. The average age on our 18-36 tours is mid twenties. The average age on our 23-45 tours is mid thirties. We get backpackers, students, friends, au pairs, active types, outdoor types, adrenaline junkies, young professionals, etc. Each tour has a dynamic blend of personalities which is a key ingredient for a successful and memorable trip.

What if I’m a solo traveler?
Most of our passengers sign up solo (80-90%). We offer a safe outlet so you can enjoy your trip. Everyone shares the same interests and is easy to get along with. We also get couples (some of our best passengers are spirited couples) and small groups.

Do you charge a single supplement?
No. We do not charge any single supplements. Most of our passengers are singles and sign up by themselves. We do not charge you extra for this.

How much luggage can I bring?
Most passengers bring 2 pieces. One large suitcase or backpack and a small to medium daypack. Washers/dryers will be accessible.

How does the food situation work?
Each passenger puts in $10/day to a collective food fund. Every other day we will hit a store and load up on fresh groceries that we keep in coolers and dry bins. A typical breakfast is cereal, toast, yogurt, coffee, tea, and juice. A typical lunch is a sandwich, chips, and fruit. It's a bit different at dinnertime. We usually have an evening cookout and whip up fresh and tasty meals like stir-fry, meat and chicken recipes, pasta, salads, camp casseroles, burritos, etc. There is always at least one vegetarian on each trip. So if that's you, not to worry. Each meal is put together so that you can have it without meat. If you have a good recipe, please write it down and bring it. Some of our best meals have been from the recipes of our passengers.

Do I need insurance?
Travel insurance is highly recommended. Check with the insurance you already have to see if you are covered. Otherwise we can offer some suggestions on where to look.

When do the tours start and end?
All trips depart between 7-8am on the date of departure. It is best for you to fly in the night before. We can give you tips on affordable hotel and hostel lodging options. On the return date we usually arrive back to the city between 3-5pm. If you fly out that evening make sure to book your flight for 6pm or after.

LANGUAGE
English is the language spoken on our budget adventure travel
tours. Since American Rambler passengers come from all over the world it is important to have a common language so that everyone is on the same page. If you are not strong in English, your tour guide will make sure to communicate effectively with you.

Spending Money
The only extras you still have to pay for are food and optional activities. Food is $10/day per person. Set aside what you need for optional activities you are interested in. Gifts will be available at a few places throughout each tour. ATM’s are everywhere and often offer the best exchange rate.

Can you accommodate vegetarians?
Of course we can! We have tasty meals both for vegetarians and meat-eaters. Its best if you mention vegetarian in the comment section when you sign up.

Email/ ATM/ Phone
On a typical 8 day trip there will be 2 towns that have internet cafes. We can stop for a quick break to check email. ATMs will be available most every day. Make sure to tell the driver before the drive that you need an ATM and we can find one for you. Pay phones will be available for the most part of every trip.

Why isn’t airfare included?
We would rather you be in charge of your flight schedule so you can control it. With the ease of purchasing airfare online you can get just as good of a deal as we can get you. We will give you guidelines of appropriate arrival and departure times.

How fit do I have to be?
As fit as you want to be. Our activities range from easy to moderate to difficult. You choose the level you are comfortable with. There is something for everyone.
