Days 1,2 Zion National Park
Zion National Park is a playground for the adventurous, and can easily hold its own against the more recognizable names like Grand Canyon and Bryce Canyon as places that define the American Southwest. Sheer cliffs, steep canyon walls, and multicolored sandstone rock make Zion a truly unique landscape to behold. Explore the world-famous slot canyons of the Zion Narrows by canyoning (non-technical hike down the canyon where the river is the main trail, but also involves criss-crossing among river banks at times). And try a Rambler favorite when you steam up Angel’s Landing, a remarkable hike offering astounding views throughout and especially the 360 degree panorama at top.

Day 3 Bryce Canyon National Park
Only in Bryce Canyon will you find such inconceivable rock formations and colors such as orange, red, cream, brown, and yellow- not to mention the bluest of skies found anywhere. If Dr. Seuss could build a sculpture garden, this would be it- with all the imaginative hoodoos and spires. Hiking in this strange and spectacular paradise is the best way to experience it. And, because of its remote location and minimal light-pollution in the area, this makes for superior stargazing in the night sky at Bryce.

Days 4, 5 Arches National Park and Moab
Arches National Park covers a vast area of extraordinary landscape. With over 2,000 natural sandstone arches, the name fits. And perhaps the most recognizable is the Delicate Arch, which even graces the state license plate, and is another favorite Rambler hike. Other noteworthy sites are the Landscape Arch and Balanced Rock, both of which seem to defy gravity and time by still existing to this day.

Moab is a top rated adventure town and mountain biking mecca. Gearheads, get ready for some riding on the infamous Slickrock Trail and a slice of mountain biking heaven. Other options are exploring the cool downtown area and an off-road excursion in the ultimate 4x4 adventure vehicle.

Day 6 Monument Valley and Lake Powell
Most of us have seen Monument Valley before, albeit on the big screen. It’s western landscape and rustic feel has been the backdrop for a countless number of Hollywood movies. Isolated red mesas, massive buttes and desolate valleys dot the landscape at every chance. These are the sacred sites of the Navajo Indians, who are keepers of Monument Valley. Included is a jeep tour with an Indian guide to explore this proud symbol of the Navajo Nation. Learn about their history, including that of the ‘Ancient Ones’ whose disappearance is still unexplained.

Cool off afterwards with a dip in Lake Powell. Swimming in a lake in the middle of the desert is a treat, especially one with waters as blue and refreshing as Lake Powell’s.

Day 7 Grand Canyon National Park
It’s so overwhelming in size and scale that one can’t help but to stare into it dumbfounded. An icon of the American southwest, the Grand Canyon measures at times up to 18 miles across and up to a mile deep. Enjoy sunset along the North Rim and marvel at the distance from one end to the other.

Day 8 Grand Canyon National Park and Las Vegas
Wake up to sunrise to remember in the Grand Canyon, followed by a nice hike to a scenic overlook. Then it’s back to Las Vegas amid the farewells and new friendships that have been made.
