Day 1 – Golden Gate Bridge, Muir Woods, Sierra Nevadas
Departing from our base in Fisherman’s Wharf, we start
this journey by traveling over the one and only Golden Gate
Bridge. A marvel of engineering, 40 million people cross over
America’s favorite bridge every year. Muir Woods is off
in the distance and contains some of the biggest and most beautiful
trees found anywhere, with some being more than 800 yrs old
and more than 250 ft (76 m) tall.
After the jaunt in Muir Woods, it’s off to the famous
California mountain range- the Sierra Nevadas. Knee deep in
the High Sierras, beautiful scenery is everywhere- even below
the ground. Burrow down below for a caving expedition to explore
mysterious caverns by foot, hands and knees. Twist, grind,
and crawl on your belly like a reptile through magnificent
caves. If you are more of an above-ground person, other options
include a zip line or strolling through a quaint wine country
town.
Days
2, 3 Yosemite National Park
Yosemite is, without a doubt, one of the top parks in the
US national park system. So much to see, so much to do! Highlights
include: the ancient giant sequoia trees (the largest living
things on earth), the lush Yosemite Valley, the mountain vistas,
breathtaking waterfalls, picture-perfect meadows, El Capitan,
Half Dome, and hundreds of miles of top-notch trails. Immerse
yourself in the surroundings of this awe-inspiring granite
playground.
Day 4 Central and South
California
Today is the transition between Northern and Southern California.
Sit back and relax from all the hiking of previous days, and
enjoy the ride through farmland, valleys, and mountains.
Day 5 LA, Joshua Tree National
Park
Making our way towards Joshua Tree and the Grand Canyon takes
us through LA where it’s easy to catch a view of the
infamous Hollywood sign. Following the city of Angels is the
magnificent scrambling playground of Joshua Tree National
Park. Explore the interesting rock formations by climbing
up, down, and around them. Joshua Tree is like nothing you’ve
ever seen- large boulders laying all over the place and on
top of each other, crazy-shaped Joshua tree cacti, and a truly
surreal landscape.
Days 6, 7 Grand Canyon National
Park
It’s so overwhelming in size and scale that one can’t
help but to stare into it dumbfounded. An icon of the American
southwest, the Grand Canyon measures at times up to 18 miles
(29 km) across and up to a mile deep (1.6 km). Enjoy a hike
along the rim and marvel at the magnitude of the 8th wonder
of the world. If you desire a bird’s eye view, take
the optional Grand Canyon airplane tour- you won’t regret
it!
Day 8 Las Vegas
From one extreme to another, get ready for the bright lights
of Sin City. There is something for everyone in Las Vegas.
Where else can you ride a roller coaster in New York, walk
in the pyramids of Egypt, and ride a Venetian gondola? All
within a few blocks of each other.
